Beyond the Weekend: The Grace Effect

In The Grace Effect, Pastor Jeff Manion and other teachers explore the impact God’s grace should have on the life of a Christian. We are challenged to live out God’s grace in seven specific ways.

Fear and Trust

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:8

Listen: 2 Corinthians 9

TODAY'S MESSAGE

The Christians in Corinth struggled to come through on a gift they intended to give. The Apostle Paul wants to help them overcome the roadblocks they’re facing to experience the blessing of generosity. One of those roadblocks was fear. We can be tempted to think, “If I’m taking care of God’s interests, who will take care of me?”

Fear can keep us from becoming radically generous people. When you give something away, it’s no longer yours. The thought of giving up control of our resources is incredibly vulnerable. However, we acknowledge God’s power and goodness when we give away our possessions, time, money or goods. Generosity is a powerful act of trust. It reminds us that God alone can sustain us. And he’s able to provide everything we need.

It is important to remember that our obedience to God never holds him hostage to act in a certain way. We might be tempted to think, “If I give away more money, God must bless me even more.”  This is a false equation. Instead, as we learn to live in radical dependence on him, we experience the blessing of his presence in our lives. God invites us to test his goodness. As Senior Pastor Jeff Manion reminded us this weekend—God is able to bless us and provide all our needs.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you begin your day, pray for God to stretch you in your generosity. Ask that he would make clear the next step that would be a definitive act of trust, for you and your family. May this new movement in your life to be an act of worship to God.
