The God Who Sends

“So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10
After forty years in the desert, eighty-year-old Moses is ready to hear from God. God sees him, comes near and gives him a mission. Fear and insecurity take over, and Moses quickly lists all the reasons he is not qualified to be sent. But instead of giving Moses a detailed plan, God gives himself. “I Am” –the eternal, unchanging God- “will be with you.” His presence with Moses is essential to the call. This promise will be confirmed to Moses when he brings the people out of Egypt and they “serve God on this mountain.”
We often respond like Moses by offering excuses about our weakness and fear. We think we don’t know enough to share Jesus with our friends. We are afraid we lack the skill or spiritual gift to serve God in a certain area. Or maybe we think we don’t have enough time to join a small group and engage in Christian community. But God does not point us back to ourselves. He points us to his name. God reminds us that he is our strength, protection and confidence wherever he sends us. On our own, we are not enough. But with God’s Spirit living in us, his power works through us (2 Corinthians 4:7).
TODAY: Consider where God has placed you in this season of life. Who, in your circle of influence, needs to hear about Jesus and his love? Write down your fears and insecurities about sharing your faith and ask God to remind you of his presence at work in and through you.
