Beyond the Weekend: Finding Peace in a Culture of Anxiety

In Finding Peace in a Culture of Anxiety, Pastor Jeff Manion and other teachers address a prominent issue facing many of us in our world today. The five sermons give us specific ways we can mitigate anxiety in our life.

Anxiety—Prayer—Peace

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.  Philippians 4:9

Read: Philippians 4

Listen: Philippians 4

TODAY'S MESSAGE

Anxiety is common to all of us. We may not feel life and death stress like the Philippians did, but we can still relate. We, too, live in a culture of anxiety that can either weigh us down or lead us to a deeper trust in God.

When the cares of life hit—job changes, unexpected babies, cancer, broken relationships—Paul says we have a choice. It might be strange to get advice on finding peace from a jailbird. But Paul is worth listening to because he is an expert on giving thanks, finding joy and experiencing peace when circumstances are out of your control.

Paul teaches there is hope for our anxiety that is rooted in the process of consistent, thankful prayer.  As we make the choice to pray—then place our trust in God—over time, peace will replace anxiety.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Last weekend, Pastor Manion shared we all carry a bag of rocks labeled with our anxieties that we need to give to God through prayer. As you begin this week, memorize Philippians 4:6 and continue to journal three things about God you are grateful for regarding your anxieties.
