I Am
Read: John 8:58-59 Listen: John 8
“’Very truly I tell you’, Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’” John 8:58
Jesus is born thousands of years after Moses. The Jewish leaders hate him and try to find a way to kill him. They accuse Jesus of not being from God. In this heated debate with Jewish leaders, Jesus makes a bold claim: “Before Abraham was born, I am.” By using God’s holy name, Jesus declares that he is the same God who spoke to Moses at the burning bush. The leaders immediately understand the weight of his words and try to stone him.
Jesus is the Son of God—fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again so we could have a right relationship with him now and forever. Jesus is the “I Am,” the one who brings life, freedom and healing. Only through him can we be forgiven, restored, and made new. This truth calls for a response. Jesus is not just a teacher or prophet but the eternal God who invites us to trust him completely. Our worship is shown not only in words but in daily surrender—presenting ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God (Romans 12:1).
