Your Past, Present, and Future Rescue
The word "saved" gets used a lot in church. But what does it really mean to be saved?
In this series, we look at how salvation works. It's not just something that happened to us in the past. It's something God is doing in us right now, and something he will finish one day.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
We Will Be Saved

Who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:5
Peter’s words land on weary believers scattered throughout the Roman Empire. Their faith in Jesus is costing them. Peter writes to these communities and reminds them that God’s sovereign and saving hand has been with them from the start. He saved them. He chose them. Their salvation is being worked out daily as they learn to love their enemies and live selflessly, just as Jesus did. Peter calls this a new birth. And yet, their salvation isn’t just in the past or present. It has a future that provides encouragement and hope. Their salvation will result in their glorification—the ending of sin and a triumphant reunion with Jesus.
Throughout this series, we have unpacked the umbrella term “Salvation.” Through Jesus’s work on the cross, we have been saved from our sins. This is justification. As followers, we are changed through the daily rhythm of learning to live like him. God gives us the power to be free from our sins. This is sanctification. And we also have the promise that one day we will be saved. This is glorification. It is the hope that one day Jesus will right all wrongs and free us from the presence of sin in this world. This week, we will take a deeper look at glorification and the salvation that is to come.
