God on Display
TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” John 9:3

TODAY'S MESSAGE
Jesus’s answer to the disciples’ question “Why?” doesn’t really answer it. He says it wasn’t his parent’s or the man’s fault. While it wasn’t the specific sin of either that caused the blindness, there is a purpose. The purpose is so that the works of God can be on display. God is on display in this man’s healing.
Going through a mess we don’t (and can’t) understand allows us to pray what can be challenging prayers. We might ask for God—in some good way—to be on display in our grief, infertility, unemployment, cancer treatment or other life disruption. Yes, we are to pray for God to act to resolve our problems and challenges. But the answers we want may not come.
Asking God to be on display doesn’t explain or make sense of our disruptions. It just acknowledges the pain and difficulty of life and asks God to be honored through it. Bearing witness to God’s goodness and mercy in our struggles asks him to work in our lives while we are in a space we don’t want to be in.
IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
Pray a prayer similar to this one, ”Gracious Father, please be at work in my ____________________. Even though this is very hard, I want your goodness and mercy to be seen by my family and friends. May you be honored in my suffering and pain.”
