Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. Acts 18:24

TODAY’S MESSAGE

It’s a unique time in the Jesus community in Ephesus. The Apostle Paul stops briefly in Ephesus then continues to Caesarea, Jerusalem, Antioch, Galatia and Phrygia. Even so, the work of building the church continues even in his absence. Paul leaves behind ministry partners Priscilla and Aquilla, a couple who will encourage the church in Ephesus during this time.

While Paul is away, a man named Apollos comes to Ephesus. Apollos is a Christian and native of Alexandria. Well educated and skilled as a speaker, Apollos gets to work right away speaking about Jesus in the synagogue.

It’s easy to see for us to see how this situation could become a mess. In Paul’s absence, this captivating speaker from out-of-town could create tension and problems. But we get a very different story. This week, we look more at this story’s details and how common tasks can lead to an uncommon life. Because doing the small things faithfully IS the big thing.

Begin this week in prayer, asking God to use you. Pray something like this, “God, I want to be used by you and be a blessing to those around me. Help me to be a light for you in my home, work, school and toward all I come in contact with. Amen.”
