TODAY’S MESSAGE

Elisha is one of the most powerful prophets in the Old Testament over a decade after he becomes Elijah’s assistant. Often when we think of Elisha or other characters in the Bible, we see the highlights and feel like that’s what made them great. We skim over the timeline and the seemingly mundane details. What if Elisha’s greatness was not only in his prophetic wonders but also in serving Elijah for years? Serving Elijah isn’t about preparing for great things—it WAS greatness.

Significant spiritual growth isn’t usually composed of giant leaps forward. Spiritual growth is typically slow and steady as we reshape our hearts and character toward Jesus. It’s the 6:30 am Bible study for 20 years. It’s a brutally honest conversation with God every day through stacks of prayer journals. Greatness is leading a small group of kindergartners and staying with them as their Lifeline leader through their high school graduation. It’s modeling the love of Jesus to your kids and praying with them every night before bed.

Meditate upon Jesus’ statement in Matthew 20:25-28. Thank God that greatness isn’t found in the flashy things but in the small things. Send a thank you text, email or social media post to a few people you know who serve others faithfully.
