TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
But the LORD is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten. Jeremiah 20:11

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Jeremiah’s breaking point has a lot to teach. After being honest with God and expressing his desire to be obedient, he shifts his focus to clinging to the promises of God. When God called Jeremiah, God told Jeremiah not to be afraid and that he would rescue Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:7-8). Here, at his low point, Jeremiah clings to God’s promise to be with and rescue him. It’s as if Jeremiah is trying to say that while he doesn’t feel it right now, he believes God and trusts his promises.
Clinging to the promises and character of God is a practice we see throughout the whole Bible and one we desperately need, especially in our most difficult seasons. When we face breaking points, it’s easy to question God and wonder what he is doing. But this is the time to remember the character of our God. Studying God’s word and learning more about his character is a key part of knowing the promises of God. It’s hard to hold onto promises when we haven’t taken the time to read God’s word to learn them. May our gracious God meet us in our breaking points, reveal his character and remind us of the promises he’s given us.
IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
Memorize a passage about the character or promise of our God. Choose one of these examples or find your own: God is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:17-18), he brings rest to our souls (Matthew 11:28-29), he will forgive and purify us (1 John 1:9), in him, we can have eternal life (John 3:16) and he won’t leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Write the verse down somewhere and commit it to memory.
