TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

Read: Colossians 3:23-24
Listen: Colossians 3

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Work is a good gift given to us by God. Adam was given work in the garden (Genesis 2:15) before sin entered the world. This shows us that work is good and to be viewed as a core part of our human identity. Being productive is key to human flourishing. As Paul wrote to the Colossians, we are to view all of our work—whether paid or unpaid—as work for the Lord. We are created to work with passion and devotion, knowing God sees all we do and will reward all good work done from good motives.

All of us have work to do. And whatever that work is, it is work given to us by God himself. Maybe that work involves changing diapers. Perhaps it involves a long commute or working for a challenging boss. It might be working for lower wages or less responsibility than we desire. Regardless of the challenges or struggles associated with our work—we are called to do good work with a good attitude as if working for the Lord. May we bring honor and glory to God as we work with all our hearts.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Take some time to praise God, who has given us the good gift of work. Sing with our worship team as they lead us in “All Creatures of our God and King.” As you praise God today, think of the good gifts he has given us, including the good gift of work.
