“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26
Read: Matthew 6:25-27
Listen: Matthew 6
Overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the gently sloping hillside provides the perfect setting for Jesus’s teaching on worry. Jesus knows that the command “do not worry” needs a familiar image to allow his teaching to sink deep into the hearts of those around him. Calling their attention to the many birds flying overhead, Jesus says, “Be like them.” He tells the people gathered that if God is concerned and provides food for the birds, how much more valuable are they as humans made in the image of God?
Jesus connects worry with value. He knows we worry about what we value. We determine value by what someone is willing to pay for it. The things that keep us up at night are the things most valuable to us. These are the things that are most precious and for which we pay significantly. Our Creator values us so much he became one of us and gave his life for us on the cross. Jesus’s death paid our debts. He bought us back from sin and death. This is how valuable we are in God’s eyes.
Watch as Ada Bible Church’s worship team sings “Way Maker.” Use the lyrics to remind you of your value to God and how he cares for you. “You are way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who you are.” If you have not yet committed your life to follow this way-making God, do so today. Reach out to us at btw@adabible.org to discuss this further.

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
