The Ethiopian eunuch is a high and powerful official for his queen. He travels 1,500 miles to worship God at the temple in Jerusalem but had likely been turned away. The Jewish culture didn’t permit someone with his skin color, ethnicity or altered body to participate in worshiping God at the temple fully. Although the man is probably rejected at the temple, God sends Philip to reach him with the message of Jesus.

As Philip explains how Jesus, God’s only son, died on the cross for our sins, the eunuch comes to faith. He understands because of Jesus, nothing can keep him from God—not his skin, body, ethnicity, what other people think or anything he has done. He recognizes God’s love is for anybody, including him.

We may think God’s love isn’t for us. Watch this video clip as Pastor Aaron Buer reminds us anything separating us from God has been erased through Jesus. It doesn’t matter where we’ve been, what we’ve done, what’s been done to us, our skin tone, body type or family background. God welcomes us into his family through Jesus Christ. When we believe Jesus is God’s Son who provides forgiveness for our sins, all barriers are removed to God. We can draw close to him. Because of Jesus, God sees us as his own. We belong. We are welcome.
