Trust

David lands his prayer of lament with confident trust in God’s character. He likely recalls his long history of experiencing God’s faithfulness as he composes this psalm. David kills a lion and bear in God’s strength, and later slays the giant who torments the entire army of Israel (1 Samuel 17). God spares him from King Saul’s murderous rage (1 Samuel 24). Remembering God’s character and faithfulness enables David to move from despair to confident trust. He may not have passed through these phases in one sitting, but he returns to trust over time.

We can trust God for the future as we remember what he has done in the past and on our behalf through Jesus Christ. We have an infallible hope through Christ’s life, death and resurrection. We can trust no matter what situation comes (and maybe stays) that God is good, wise and can be trusted. We can have relative hope in doctors, medicine or relational restoration. But even if those don’t fix a situation, we can have unfailing confidence in God’s good and perfect will. We have a future and hope with Christ for eternity and the promise of his presence until that day comes. Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion reminds us of God’s character shown on the cross.
