READ Proverbs 21 (listen). WRITE out one verse and SHARE with someone.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Proverbs 4:26
Read: Proverbs 4:26
Listen: Proverbs 4
Many of the proverbs focus on “the path” or “the way.” King Solomon knew that the paths we take in life lead to predictable destinations. Life isn’t made up of hundreds of disconnected decisions. Rather, make enough decisions and over time they become a well-worn path. The book of Proverbs guides us onto the right road, helping us make wise choices as we live in community, and under the rule and care of our Heavenly Father.
Every day we choose a way. We choose how to treat our coworkers and family. We decide how to handle our finances and how honest to be in our words. We choose how to respond to advice or correction. We decide how we talk to and about people. With each choice, we pave a well-worn path that becomes auto-pilot.
We should choose our life’s path wisely, and it’s never too late to choose a new path. As we read in today’s reading for The Wisdom Challenge, “A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart” (Proverbs 21:2). We can walk a new, wise path as we faithfully come to the Lord and seek his help.
Spend time in prayer asking God to reveal what road you are on spiritually, relationally, at work or with your family. Confess any areas he reveals where you have turned away from him. Ask for his strength to make new choices that bring you back to his path.
