Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you. Psalm 55:22a
Read: Psalm 55:16-22
Listen: Psalm 55
David’s life changes in an instant. He’s probably on the run, leaving behind his home and much of his family. He doesn’t know how the coup will play out. These things often get bloody, and there are no guarantees. While running, David writes that he trusts in God. But that isn’t all. The Psalm shifts and David addresses the audience. He challenges the community to trust.
David’s Psalm becomes a song Israel would sing together to worship God. It’s raw, it’s emotional, but it lands on trust. As the community sings, they would realize it’s ok to be honest with God. At the same time, they would be challenging each other to trust God in seasons of calamity or betrayal. We need this just as much as they did. When we worship together as a church community, we are doing something similar. We are reminding each other of who God is and why we can trust him.
Listen to Great is Thy Faithfulness performed by the Ada Bible Worship Team. The lyrics of the song remind us that Jesus offers “pardon for sin and a peace that endureth…strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” Let those words sink in and remind you why you can place your trust in Jesus. Share the song with a friend to remind them of God’s goodness in whatever season they are going through and encourage them to trust.
Join us this year as we read through the New Testament.
