But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22
Read: Galatians 5:22-23
Listen: Galatians 5
We’ve looked these past four weeks at how God wants us to deal with the emotions of anger, sadness, fear and desire. We’ve learned selfish anger doesn’t produce the righteousness of God, so we need to acknowledge it and allow God to help us change. Jesus understands our sadness/grief and grieves with us. When he returns again, our tears will be turned to joy for eternity. Joshua (in the Old Testament) models how to deal with our fears by remembering God is with us and for us. And God gives us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us away from ungodly desires when we choose to walk in the Spirit.
Early in the series, Pastor Jeff Manion gave us a NAVIGATING EMOTIONS TOOL to look at daily. One side lists six feelings (mad, glad, sad, excited, afraid, ashamed) to help us get in touch with how we’re feeling that day. The other side encourages us to ask for an extra measure of the fruit of the Spirit that will help us the most (Galatians 5:22-23). Keep using this exercise to stay focused on growing in God’s character.
As we wrap up this series to start our next on DANIEL: HONOR IN EXILE, review sermon notes you took, discussions you had with your small group and devotionals in Beyond the Weekend that held special meaning for you. Invite God to help you with the emotion that gives you the most trouble.
Set aside some time this weekend to return to the sermon that was most helpful to you or missed. Watch them anytime at adabible.org/series/navigating-emotions. If you’d like to talk further about navigating emotions, email us at btw@adabible.org.

MICAH 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
