READ Proverbs 30 and 31 (listen to 30 and 31). WRITE out one verse and SHARE with someone.
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly. Proverbs 26:11
Read: Proverbs 26:11
Listen: Proverbs 26
While incredibly graphic, today’s verse is a truth Solomon didn’t want his readers to forget. His experience taught him that those who were foolish tended to continually make the same poor choices and do the same wrong things, often just like our family dog.
We rationalize our choices by saying, “This time will be different.” We said it the last time we hung out with people making poor choices, dated a person on the wrong path, stayed up all night watching something we shouldn’t or used retail therapy to fight the boredom of the shutdown.
Pride makes us think it will be different, and we might convince ourselves it will be. But it isn’t if it’s the same pattern we keep going back to, time and again, against the warnings of God and loved ones.
It’s time to be honest with yourself about those things to which you keep returning—the patterns you know are wrong and warned against by God and others. Talk with your small group leader, a trusted and mature believer or someone here at Ada Bible about some first steps you can take to stop living in a bad pattern. When they tell you, be sure to say “thank you” for the important wisdom they’ve given you.
